With the event scheduled for November, the COP30 has been shaking up the market and business agendas. Among the activities, the Amcham Brazil brought together the main representatives of the public and private sectors to discuss the challenges of COP30. The entity represents more than 3,5 associated companies, responsible for approximately 33% of Brazil's GDP.
In addition to COP30, the public and private sectors discussed issues such as the energy transition, investments in the green agenda, sustainability in agribusiness, decarbonization and solutions for mobility.
At the meeting, they prepared material with 13 proposals focusing on strengthen Brazil's international protagonismto accelerate the implementation of environmental and climate policies in the country. See the proposals below:
COP30 international negotiations
- Ensure submission of revised and ambitious Targeted Contributions (NDCs) by all countries by September 2025.
- Advance the Baku-Bethlehem Roadmap, unlocking public resources and facilitating access to multilateral banks to reach the target of US$1,3 trillion per year in climate finance.
- Unlock private financing, creating a system of guarantees to attract investment in sustainable projects.
- Focus on implementing climate adaptation, with an action plan focused on water and food resilience and defining progress indicators.
- Intensify the negotiation process, promoting preparatory meetings to accelerate the negotiation schedule, especially in financing, adaptation and regulation.
- Accelerate the COP30 Action Agenda, focusing on forest conservation and restoration, recovery of degraded lands and encouraging the use of biofuels in the energy transition.
Domestic policies linked to COP30
- Regulation of the carbon market, with the beginning of the implementation of the Brazilian Emissions Trading System (SBCE) and the creation of a clear and competitive regulatory environment.
- Finalization of the Brazilian Sustainable Taxonomy, to expand access to resources for environmentally sustainable projects.
- Implementation of the Climate Plan, with clear sectoral goals and an execution plan in dialogue with the productive sector.
- Energy transition, with regulation of the clean hydrogen market, sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and approval of a bill on critical minerals.
- Modernization of the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR), with improvements in governance, technology and acceleration of analyses.
- Approval of the National Circular Economy Policy, together with the implementation of the National Strategy to strengthen sustainable production chains.
- Creation of incentives for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), with regulations and financial mechanisms to make projects viable in Brazil.
